4TH EDITION OF THE “TWO HOURS FOR THE FAMILY” CAMPAIGN – 2015
MEMORIES CONNECT GENERATIONS

Under the patronage of the wife of President of the Republic of Poland, Mrs Anna Komorowska

…WE ARE SHORT ON TIME AND GOOD CONVERSATION WITHOUT WHICH IT IS DIFFICULT TO HAVE GOOD, LASTING RELATIONSHIPS AND VALUABLE MODELS FOR THE YOUNG GENERATION…

In the 4th edition of the Campaign we encouraged the family INTERGENERATIONAL CONVERSATION ABOUT MEMORIES, childhood memories, talking about Grandparents, Relatives, Neighbours, Friends. We encouraged people to reach for old photographs and mementos and look for the legend of your Family which you would like to pass on to the next generation. We urged them to share those memories and record them…

“We are what we remember, and the less we remember, the smaller we are…” Carlos Ruiz Zafon

Our Campaign has also been supported by public persons, those who shared their memories included Zbigniew Wodecki, Zbigniew Gajewski, Tomasz Kopeć, Agnieszka Wosińska i Jacek Rakowiecki.

In the consecutive year of the Campaign, dozens of companies and thousands of employees joined in. They received 2 hours to build relationships within their families. Long-term research conducted by the Gallup Institute showed that persons who are happy with their professional and private life are 30% more committed employees. Which is more, they are much less exposed to burnout and their absenteeism is over 40% lower. This proves that supporting employees in building a successful private life should be in the employers’ interest – not only in the social but also in the economic context.

Below, we are presenting a list of ideas and questions for the time spent together you’re your family:

  1. Do you know the history of your name? Why did your parents want you to have this name?
  2. Where does your Family come from? Do you know where your Parents, Grandparents were born?
  3. Do you know where and how your Grandparents met? Your Parents? Does it involve some funny story?
  4. Who do you admire today and who did you admire in the past?
  5. Ask Parents/Grandparents/Siblings which day from the past they remember particularly well and whether they would like to experience it again.
  6. What is/was your favourite subject at school and why? How do your Parents/Grandparents/Siblings remember school?
  7. Who was your first best Friend?
  8. Each Family Member tries to expand the following sentence: “My childhood memory that often comes back to me is…”
  9. Together with your children prepare (and maybe also record) an interview with Grandma, Grandpa, another person close to you, on e.g. games, tastes, sounds, smells from their childhood,
  10. Did you use to keep a diary or a journal with memories? If so, try to find it and check together what you wrote in it.
  11. Reach for old photos again. What are your most precious Family mementos?
